Community Programs
Obesity and diabetes have both emerged at epidemic levels causing lower health expectancy for our state’s residents.
While strategies have been tested and tried, rates continue to drive upwards. Diabetes prevalence is nearly twice as high among Hispanic and Black adults compared to White adults. Obesity rates also vary significantly, with high rates among Black and Hispanic adults and children. Thirty-one percent of New Jersey children aged 10–17 are overweight or obese.
Our community programs are dedicated to bringing awareness and education to targeted zip codes to lift the barriers that cost, reduced number of providers, long appointment waits and lack of transportation create.
By bringing together networks of partners we are able to provide A1C screenings, diabetes bootcamps and health education to hundreds of people each year.
